Sindiso Khumalo, an African fashion designer has won the Green Carpet Fashion Awards for Best Independent Designer.
The award ceremony was held on October 10 from a digital-rendering of Milan’s iconic opera house, La Scala.
GCFA was founded to celebrate those who have transformed the possibilities of fashion every year.
This year’s award ceremony was hosted by Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana in collaboration with Vogue Arabia sustainability editor-at-large Livia Firth’s Eco-age.
Sindiso Khumala expressed how grateful and joyous she was saying, “This has been the most incredible year. Thank you to Eco-age and Camera Moda for awarding me with the Best Independent Designer Award at this year’s Green Carpet Fashion Awards. I am still processing this and feel so humbled by it all. Thank you for believing in us and the work we do. We dedicate this award to the amazing artisans I work with in Burkina Faso, Cape Town etc.
“I started my brand with the premise of being a modern day Robin hood to make luxury clothing that will eventually help the poorest and most vulnerable in our society. To create a change for our continent and create a new future for our youth. This award reaffirms that dream. Thank you Eco-age for believing in our African dream.”
Out of 16 independent designers nominated for the award, Sindiso Khumalo was recognised for her outstanding contributions to the fashion industry and her work addresses the eco-age principles of sustainable excellence.
Among the list of winners was
- American actor Zendaya, who received the GCFA Visionary Award.
- Venetian brand Progetto Quid, who won the CNMI Responsible Disruption Award and many more.
