Nike ISPA is an innovation-focused, functionality-grounded Swoosh sub-label that aims to create products for the modern-day commuter, and the latest result of its quest for what’s next is a technical Inflate Jacket. Featuring a manual loft system that’s ideal for spring’s inherently sporadic weather — chilly one moment, balmy the next — the Inflate Jacket uses Nike‘s patented Air system in a bold new fashion.
ISPA is short for “improvise, scavenge, protect, adapt,” and improvisation is front and center on the Inflate jacket. Although most consumers would associate Nike Air with performance footwear like the VaporMax or lifestyle classics like the Air Max 1, the translucent jacket uses it for a different type of comfy cushioning. Visible under the chest’s synthetic folds is a blue air bladder, which can be inflated for extra warmth or deflated for increased breathability and mobility.
This adjustable setup is a modern-day spinoff of 2006’s Nike Airvantage, an ahead-of-its-time apparel collection with built-in Air tubes. The Inflate Jacket is also equipped with utilitarian details like taped seams and toggles, while small branded Swoosh hits complete the look.
The Nike ISPA Inflate Jacket will release on the Nike webstore come March 13. A retail price has yet to be announced.
Apart from the jacket, ISPA has another product hitting retailers on March 13: the new Air Max 720 ISPA “Metallic Silver,” a shimmering take on the striking silhouette that once caught Kanye West‘s attention.
