Studio Ghibli announced, back in 2017, that kimchi Wa Dou Ikiru Ka? (How Do You Live?) as Miyazaki’s next film. The film will be based on Yoshino Genzaburo’s 1937 story of a young boy who moves in with his uncle after the death of his father, after which he notices a spiritual change in himself.
Suzuki has said that the coronavirus has affected most of the television and film productions around the world as shooting and all other work has been seized due to the lockdown. But the pandemic has not affected the release of their movie. However, they still need some years to see the final results of the movie sinking in.
“We are still hand-drawing everything, but it takes us more time to complete a film because we’re drawing more frames,” he noted. “So, there are more drawings to draw than before. Back when we were making [1988’s] My Neighbor Totoro, we only had eight animators. Totoro we made in eight months. [For] the current film that Hayao Miyazaki is working on, we have 60 animators, but we are only able to come up with one minute of animation in a month. That means 12 months a year; you get 12 minutes worth of movie. We’ve been working on this film for three years, so that means we have completed 36 minutes. We’re hoping it will finish in the next three years.”
How Do You Live? Release Date: When Is The Movie Going To Release?
At the start of 2020, Studio Ghibli revealed that two films are under development right now. But the release date for both the movies is not confirmed yet. We will let you know about the dates once it is revealed by the makers. We can expect it by the end of 2021 or early 2022 at max.
